Principal B. M Peerzada, a prominent academician and the dean of commerce faculty,Gujarat University from 1971 to1972 , 1976 to 1979 and 1979 to 1982, took the challenge,in 1982 to establish an English medium college affiliated to Gujarat University.

He had the skill and the experience to address this Herculean task and he brought together seven distinguished people who were the whos-who of the academic field.They were not merely degree holders or people from the corporate world but were individuals who knew the dynamics of education from inside out. A trust was set up in the name of Jagruti Kendra. This trust , then , went on to define the parameters on which the college would function.
